Myth #1

CATÓLICA-LISBON is a private school. It already receives all the money it needs from its students.

FACT:

CATÓLICA-LISBON is in fact a non-profit public interest institution and, unlike most of our sister schools in Portugal, does not benefit from state funding. Our sources of income adequately cover our operating costs, but leave little to reinvest in the school.

Myth #2

I can only give a small amount and it won't make any difference.

FACT: 

It certainly does! Every gift we receive, regardless of the amount, has an immediate and powerful impact. Helping CATÓLICA shape the future is a collaborative effort, so donations of any amount make a difference.

Myth #3

CATÓLICA-LISBON doesn't need me - it has thousands of Alumni.

FACT:

Are you one of CATÓLICA-LISBON's Alumni who is already giving back in some way every year? Alumni donations are a vote of confidence in the school. The percentage of Alumni who donate, regardless of the amount, reflects how much our Alumni community believes in the education provided at CATÓLICA-LISBON. Prospective students and families, external funding bodies and ranking organizations measure Alumni satisfaction through this percentage.

Myth #4

My donation may not be used in the way I intend.

FACT:

We pride ourselves on being an example when it comes to fulfilling donors' wishes and using funds efficiently, so you can be sure that your donations will go a long way at CATÓLICA-LISBON. The total amount of your donation will support the chosen project(s). Specific information can be found on each campaign page, and we'll also keep you updated as the project progresses, so you can see how much your donation has helped.

Myth #5

I have to choose which campaigns to support, but they all seem valid to me...

FACT:

You can check out our various campaign pages for more information on each project. You can always choose to direct your donation to one or more of our main projects:
- Infrastructure
- Knowledge and Innovation
- Scholarships

You can even decide to give differently to each of them - different amounts, different timings, different ways. Please check the FAQ's or the campaign pages for more details.

Myth #6

Making an online donation is a time-consuming process.

FACT:

It's quick and easy to make an online donation. You can find GIVE buttons to make your donation in the top menu bar and on the campaign pages:

- Top menu bar: press the GIVE button at the top of the page, select the campaign(s) you want to support, choose the amount and follow the step-by-step process.

- Campaign pages: Select the specific campaign at the bottom of the main page, which will take you to the chosen campaign page and press the GIVE button.

Myth #7

I can only make a donation if I live in Portugal.

FACT:

The donation form allows every donor, regardless of where they are in the world, to make a donation. If you are in the USA, Canada or the UK, we have a special vehicle to facilitate this process. If you have any questions or would like to know more, please contact: developmentoffice.clsbe@ucp.pt .

Myth #8

Online payments may not be safe.

FACT:

All payments are processed via a secure online form and any contact information collected is GDPR compliant and will only be used by Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics or Universidade Católica Portuguesa. 100% of the funds received will go directly to the campaign(s) you choose to support. There are no fees deducted for online processing, except the fees charged by your bank.

Myth #9

The only way to support the Campaign is financially.

FACT:

Of course not! There are many ways to spread the word, show support and encourage other Alumni and friends to get involved. If you're an Alumnus, you can become an Alumni Ambassador and help us with fundraising campaigns. Check the FAQ's for more details.
